Non-violent Communication (NVC) is an approach to relating to others compassionately, and is based on giving and receiving. NVC skills are very useful in overcoming major communication barriers and resolving conflicts. The process of NVC encourages us to focus on what we and others are observing apart from our interpretations and judgments, to connect our thoughts and feelings to our underlying human needs (e.g. protection, support, love) and to be clear about what we want in order to meet those needs. Practising NVC provides for an increased understanding and a deeper connection between people.
